Old road to Consallforge
Old road to Consallforge
The forge on the river Churnet below Consall was established in the mid-17th century. This road was constructed to transport the pig iron and other materials it needed. It was also the only road into the hamlet of Consallforge that grew up around it. The forge is long gone and the road was abandoned after part of it fell into the valley in the 1930s. Consallforge was then cut off from road traffic until the current road was made in 1989.
