'The Tree of Life', Edgbaston Street, Birmingham
The statue commemorates the casualties of the bombing of the city during the second world war when 2241 people died out of a casualty list of over 9000. Terrible though that death toll is, it should be remembered that over 5500 citizens of Frankfurt died in the same conflict. Frankfurt is one of Birmingham's twin cities.
