Holne: Venford Reservoir
Holne: Venford Reservoir
The dam, over which the Holne-Hexworthy road runs, was built in 1907, using granite from local quarries and from Merrivale. The reservoir holds 198 million gallons of water when full and has a catchment area of 291 hectares or 720 acres. Originally designed to supply Paignton with water, the town outgrew the reservoir and now water is supplied to Widecombe in the Moor and Ashburton, although some still flows to Paignton and Brixham.
Towards the end of a dry June in 2010 the reservoir is below its maximum capacity
