General Wade's Military Road
This is part of the network of roads built in the Highlands between 1725 and 1740 by the troops commanded by General George Wade (1673-1748). These roads are the basis for many of today's roads in the Highlands. They were intended to make it easier to move troops around to deal with any insurrections or unrest after the Jacobite Risings of 1715 and 1719. This view from Suidhe shows a fairly straight stretch which rises and falls like a switchback for a couple of miles.
