The plantation is called Westfield Bog Plantation and is drained by Pallin's Burn. At the time of the Battle of Flodden Field in 1513, this was a vast boggy marshland, and was only easily crossed in a few locations. One of these, a track-way known as Branx Brig NT9038 : Cows & calves near Inch Plantation, was used by part of the English army (Admiral Thomas Howard's division) as part of the northerly flanking approach towards the location of the Scottish forces and the eventual battlefield below Branxton Hill LinkExternal link
The Battle of Flodden Field :: NT8837
Also called the Battle of Branxton Moor. It was fought on September 9th 1513 between an invading Scots army under King James IV and an English army commanded by Thomas Howard, Earl of Surrey. It ended in a victory for the English and was the largest battle (in terms of numbers) fought between the two nations.
