Blackbird (Turdus merula)
Blackbird (Turdus merula)
Several birds exhibited this behaviour today, squatting on the bare earth at the edge of what passes for a lawn and stretching out their wings. Sunbathing is a tactic some birds use to help dislodge parasites that start to overheat and move at which point they can be seen and picked off. This bird is a recently fledged juvenile.
