The CCTV installation seen in the first picture is for observing the tail lamps of trains at the station rather than watching the station itself. In the manual signalling system still in use here, the signaller in the signal box sited by the junction cannot tell the signaller at the signal box a train came from that it has safely arrived until he has seen the tail lamp(s) on the train. If he had to wait until the train passed him (or indeed if was reversing at Droitwich Spa station) there could be unacceptable delays to following trains.
The elaborate mounting arrangements are to comply with modern access standards for regular maintenance of signalling equipment.
