NN6084 : Mossy spring

Mossy spring
Mossy spring
At the foot of the steeper slope on the Fara. I was glad to find this, having rejected all other offers of water as too peaty and/or full of insects. This water is clear and pure. The bright green moss contrasts with all the surrounding heath vegetation. Such springs are classic indicators of deep-seated slope failure, as pervades all these slopes above L Ericht from Meall Cruaidh to An Faraidh - the water can penetrate deep, get purified, and pick up nice fresh minerals (the mineral flush accounts for the verdant vegetation, often rare acid-intolerant species).
