Lord Chancellor Hay's Monument
Lord Chancellor Hay's Monument
This monument dating from 1634 is inside the Kinnoull Aisle, the only remaining part of the 16th century Kinnoull Kirk which was replaced in the 1830s by the current Kinnoull Parish Church, a little further north on the river bank.
An early example of Scottish funerary art, the monument is a memorial to the 1st Earl of Kinnoull, a courtier, King's Chancellor, industrialist and politician. There is an interpretative panel in the building which provides interesting insights into the symbols used.
