SP3165 : Bell chamber, All Saints parish church

taken 7 years ago, near to Royal Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, Great Britain

Bell chamber, All Saints parish church
Bell chamber, All Saints parish church
A climb to the roof of the tower affords a view down on to the bells. People, top left, indicate the scale. The bells are in their resting position during a break in bell-ringing practice. The bellringers and bell-ropes are in the chamber below.

The bells are of various dates. They were rehung for the dedication of the new bell-tower in 1903, having spent many years in a temporary wooden belfry at the west end of the incomplete church. The enlargement of All Saints in the 19th century is a quite extraordinary story, recounted in full in 'Royal Leamington Spa: a history' by Lyndon F. Cave, 2009.
