The tomb of Sir John Germain (d.1718)
He is shown reclining on a cushion but dressed in armour. In front of him are the three children of his second marriage, all of whom died in infancy. Germain was of Dutch extraction and is thought to have been an illegitimate brother of William of Orange, he is described as 'a soldier of fortune' and allusion to the fact that he is said to have made his money gambling.
