NZ0582 : Salter's Nick, Shaftoe Crags

taken 8 years ago, near to Middleton Bank Top, Northumberland, Great Britain

Salter's Nick, Shaftoe Crags
Salter's Nick, Shaftoe Crags
Viewed from the west (below the crags). The track is an ancient drove road between Scotland and Newcastle via Elsdon. The place name provides evidence for a former Northumberland coastal salt industry with salt transported to the Border Abbeys.
The remains of an Iron Age and Romano-British settlement are on the right, above the crags.
