Rock Samphire - Chesil Cove
Rock Samphire - Chesil Cove
Rock Samphire (Crithmum maritimum) grows in abundance along the coast at Chiswell. The name "Samphire" is derived from "sampier" or Saint Pierre, the patron saint of fishermen. The plant acquired this name because it likes to grow on cliffs and rocks by the sea and Saint Peter was also known as 'the rock'.
