NY7367 : Hexagon Plantation from Hadrian's Wall

taken 14 years ago, 3 km from Whiteside, Northumberland, England

Hexagon Plantation from Hadrian's Wall
Hexagon Plantation from Hadrian's Wall
The Wall at this point is topped by a turf strip which was full of wild flowers - thyme and birdsfoot trefoil I think just here. Turf-topped sections are usually the work of John Clayton, the 19th century antiquarian who saved much of the Wall from total destruction.
