NY7066 : The forward defensive ditch of Hadrian's Wall

taken 7 years ago, near to Haltwhistle, Northumberland, Great Britain

The forward defensive ditch of Hadrian's Wall
The forward defensive ditch of Hadrian's Wall
The Wall itself has disappeared at this point. Beyond the corner of the dry stone wall (line of sheep) is the southern rampart of a Roman camp. This may have been an earlier marching camp, a work camp for Wall builders or simply a make-work to keep the troops' construction skills up.
