Fa'side Castle
Fa'side Castle
Magnificent 15thC tower-house with an added 16thC wing on land owned originally by the de Fauside family who settled here in the 12thC. Standing on the main invasion route from England - the A1 passes close by - it suffered damage at various times in its history. Under threat of demolition in the 1970s, it was saved and restored to splendour through private initiative and assistance from the novelist Nigel Tranter.
