Footpath and Red Valerian - Portland
Footpath and Red Valerian - Portland
Along the footpath and under West Cliff above Chesil Cove are outcrops of Red Valerian (Centranthus ruber). Originally from the Mediterranean area this plant was probably imported as a garden plant and escaped. It grows in walls, rocky places and on cliffs. Also known as Bouncing Bess, Drunken Sailor, Bovisand Soldier, etc.
