Boundary stone dyke or ring stone dyke
Boundary stone dyke or ring stone dyke
This is the stone dyke between two properties or two farms. In this case between the National Nature Reserve and the farm land at Beecroft Hall. It is important that these dykes are well maintained, and in this case has the added wire fence which is fairly common in this area but rarely seen in some areas with stone dykes. It ensures that stock from one holding does not mix with the next and in this case clearly marks the Open Access land. Limestone is very close to the surface here, and in some areas emerges as the classic "limestone pavement".
