Hovercraft Lifeboat at Poole
Hovercraft Lifeboat at Poole
There are six RNLI lifeboats, four in active service and two at Poole held in reserve for training. This shows one of the two Poole craft speeding towards the entrance to the harbour from just north of Shell beach. It is either the H-001 Molly Rayner or the H-006 John Russell. The craft were built by Griffon Hovercraft, have a length of 25 ft, weigh 2.5 tons, have a top speed of 30 knots and a crew of three. They are used in tidal areas where deep keel boats would be at a disadvantage.

In the background is millionaires row on Sandbanks, some of the most expensive real estate in the world where people like Harry Redknapp and other footballers live.
