ST0366 : Lagoon - East Aberthaw

taken 8 years ago, near to East Aberthaw, The Vale of Glamorgan/Bro Morgannwg, Great Britain

Lagoon - East Aberthaw
Lagoon - East Aberthaw
A brackish lagoon resulting from the diversion and straightening of the River Thaw to allow construction of the nearby Aberthaw Power Station. The Thaw estuary was once a thriving harbour, in particular regard to the lime works once located here as well as other trade along the Welsh coast of the Bristol Channel. Evidence of the activities of the power station can be seen to the left where ash tips have been sympathetically planted with grass and trees. The stack, or chimney, in frame is not that of the power station but of a neighbouring cement works where limestone from a large local quarry is processed.
