The bridge was built in 1875 by S.H. Yockney of Victoria Street, Westminster to serve a wireworks near to the Abbey Mill in Tintern. The bridge connected with the Wye Valley Railway, which opened in 1876 - by which time the wireworks had closed. Now a footbridge
