Recumbent Fold
Recumbent Fold
This is a wider view of the fold in NK0630 : Devil's Study.

"A prominent westward closing recumbent syncline occurs in thick-bedded, partly gritty, psammitic greywackes and cordierite schists. The axial plane spaced cleavage (spacing c 0.5 cm) is uniformly developed across this profile." [Dr J R Mendum in 'Excursion Guide to the Geology of the Aberdeen Area', Scottish Academic Press, Edinburgh, 1987, Page 168, Excursion 13, Locality 4]

Psammite is metamorphosed sandstone and schist is metamorphosed mudstone. If you are mystified by 'axial plane spaced cleavage', see NK0630 : Axial Planar Cleavage.
