Floral Clock, Princes Street Gardens
Floral Clock, Princes Street Gardens
It may sound cuckoo, but as long as the Floral Clock keeps ticking, civilization will survive. It was dreamt up by Edinburgh Parks Superintendent John McHattie and first planted in the Spring of 1903. It began with only an hour hand but a minute hand was added the following year. A world first, it has been imitated in many other places in Britain and throughout the world. The theme for 2010 was "A Hundred Years Of Girl Guiding".
