Central stand and saluting box for the Tattoo
The high cabin is where the VIPs gather to watch the annual Edinburgh Military Tattoo which was first held in 1948 and became the centrepiece of the official International Edinburgh Festival after 1950. A chosen dignitary takes the salute at the end of each performance, usually a high-ranking army officer or often a member of the royal family.
