Holford gas storage project
EON’s Holford Gas Storage Project is an ambitious project to store up to 156 million cubic metres of natural gas in eight disused salt caverns, each around 700m below ground level and up to 100m in diameter and 100m high. Construction started in 2005 following a long series of public inquiries and appeals, and it is expected to come into operation in 2011. Other similar projects storing gas in the Cheshire saltfield are in progress or planned.
