SD8903 : Gorse Mill

Gorse Mill
Gorse Mill
View along the south fašade. This gives some impression of the size of the building. Note also the subtle variations in detailing so that no two storeys are in fact identical.
Gorse Mill
One of a group of four surviving mills in close proximity to each other in the south west corner of Chadderton.
The tower with its pyramidal roof - a feature now missing from many other mills - is on the near corner and makes this an imposing mill when you approach. Built in 1908 to the design of P. S. Stott, it had a 1600 hp Urmson and Thompson engine. Sadly the engine house and chimney are long gone.
