Ace Mill
Ace Mill
The southern fašade on Broadway, which is the one most likely to be seen, is the least effective in architectural terms. Gorse Mill in the background.

Ace Mill
One of a group of four still extant mills in the south west corner of Chadderton.
A relatively late mill, built in 1914 to the design of P. S. Stott. It did not commence use as a spinning mill until 1919, having been used for aircraft manufacture during the Great War. Architecturally it appears as the least imposing of the group of four mills in this part of Chadderton, as the tower that was usually a prominent feature is tucked away from the main thoroughfare and is less striking than many. Stylistically, the engine house is the only part of the building visible to the casual passer-by which shows any significant detailing. Inside was a large 2000 hp cross-compound engine by Urmson and Thompson.
In (apparently flourishing) industrial occupation in June 2010.
Gorse Mill
One of a group of four surviving mills in close proximity to each other in the south west corner of Chadderton.
The tower with its pyramidal roof - a feature now missing from many other mills - is on the near corner and makes this an imposing mill when you approach. Built in 1908 to the design of P. S. Stott, it had a 1600 hp Urmson and Thompson engine. Sadly the engine house and chimney are long gone.
