Saxon Shore Way through the road construction works
Saxon Shore Way through the road construction works
The long distance path heads from Sittingbourne, beside the Milton Creek heading towards Kemsley. It goes through the construction of the Sittingbourne Northern Relief Road. The piles either side of the path are part of the foundations for the bridge to cross the Milton Creek.

Presumably after the bridge is built the footpath will cross underneath the new road.
Saxon Shore Way
The Saxon Shore Way starts at Gravesend, Kent and traces the coast as it was in the Roman times as far as Hastings in East Sussex, 163 miles (262 km) in total. The Saxon Shore Way was originally opened in 1980, but has since been re-established, and in parts re-routed and extended. It follows the coastline of the South East as it was about 1500 years ago, long before the North Kent Marshes or the Romney Marsh came into existence. The Way takes its name, The Saxon Shore, from a line of fortifications built along the coastline as it was in the 3rd Century AD.
Sittingbourne Northern Relief Road
This new road will link the A249 dual carriageway with the Eurolink Industrial Estate (to the North of Sittingbourne). The Kent Highway Services project will see 0.9 miles of road built by Jackson Civil Engineering to link Swale Way at Ridham Avenue (near Kemsley Paper Mill) with Swale Way at Castle Road (in the Industrial Estate). This section of the Sittingbourne Northern Relief Road will cross both Milton Creek and the Sittingbourne and Kemsley Light Railway.
