new footbridge, Rainham station
new footbridge, Rainham station
As shown in other geographs for this square the Channel Tunnel Rail Link has been built parallel to the old railway through Rainham. The level crossing has been closed and traffic diverted, but it is on a cycle route and this elaborate foot/cycle bridge has replaced the crossing in 2006.
Rainham Station
The station was opened in 1854 as part of the original route of the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway and is 12 miles down the line from London Fenchurch Street. The station is also known as Rainham (Greater London) and Rainham (Essex) to distinguish it from Rainham railway station in Kent. Services run to Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness (via Southend Central)
