The Ashby Canal west of Hinckley, Leicestershire
The Ashby Canal west of Hinckley, Leicestershire
Opened in 1804, this 22 mile lock free canal originally went as far north as Conkers (near Moira), and never reached Ashby-de-la-Zouch. Coal was carried on a regular commercial basis until the 1960s. At present the canal stops at Snarestone, though the extra eight mile stretch to Moira is being (or has been) restored. We all anticipate its opening in the not too distant future.

Here the canal passes between the two Triumph motorcycle factories.

Triumph Motorcycles Limited is a 100% privately owned company. The parent company is called Bloor Holdings Limited, which is owned by John Bloor. Triumph has five world class factories around the world, all 100% owned by the company. Two of these factories are based in Hinckley in the UK, the other three are in Chonburi, Thailand.
