NZ7409 : Stump Cross, Danby

taken 9 years ago, near to Houlsyke, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Stump Cross, Danby.
Stump Cross, Danby.
Stump Cross stands just north of the old road known as Stonegate; it runs west from Stonegate to Danby Beacon. The cross has a large square base with a short piece of shaft wedged into it. The base rests on a flat stone with three pieces of broken shaft on either side. The name stump probably refers to the remnant of shaft, there are other Stump Crosses which is the reason I put Danby in the title.
