NT4427 : Sluice gate mechanism

taken 7 years ago, near to Philiphaugh, Scottish Borders, Great Britain

Sluice gate mechanism
Sluice gate mechanism
A good solid bit of machinery to raise or lower two sluice gates at the entrance to the mill lade at Philiphaugh Estate. The worm wheel turns the shaft to lift the gate via the rack and pinion. The water returns to the Ettrick at Selkirk Bridge, shown in NT4628 : The mill lade from Selkirk Bridge.
