The Site of the Motte and Bailey Castle
The Site of the Motte and Bailey Castle
A motte and bailey was built here using the walls of the late 3rd century Roman Saxon shore fort. The site was levelled in 1839 but the remains of a ditch can be see in the middle distance. A timber palisade and wooden castle was built.
