NN1370 : Glen side woodland

taken 8 years ago, near to Achriabhach, Highland, Great Britain

Glen side woodland
Glen side woodland
The native woodland on the side of Glen Nevis clings to the gullies eroded by mountain streams. These are separated by former grazings, now dominated by bracken. There is a very distinct change above to heather moorland and crags.
The Gully is Five-finger Gully, notorious as a trap for those descending unwarily from Ben Nevis, and many Mountain Rescue incidents have occurred here.
