SD8292 : Thwaite Bridge east parapet

taken 8 years ago, near to Cotterdale, North Yorkshire, Great Britain

Thwaite Bridge east parapet
Thwaite Bridge east parapet
An inverted Ordnance Survey cut mark benchmark is visible on the east parapet of the bridge. The mark probably dates from 1845. Its inversion may have been done by design to indicate the mark was no longer in use, or perhaps by accident at some stage when the parapet required rebuilding. More information about the mark may be found on the Bench Mark Database at LinkExternal link
