Tranmer House, Sutton Hoo
Tranmer House, Sutton Hoo
The house was built in 1910. It was bought by Frank Pretty in 1926 when it was called Sutton Hoo House. He died in 1934 and in the late 1930s his widow, Edith Pretty, employed Basil Brown, an archaeologist, to begin the opening of the burial mounds on her land. It was in 1939 that the astonishing treasure was discovered. Mrs. Pretty donated it to the British Museum.
