Castles of Connacht: Derryhivenny, Galway

This round cornered tower house rises almost 50 feet to the wall-walk, and is adjoined by a bawn wall on its south and north sides, having two diagonally opposite corner flankers. One of these has a corbel inscribed with the year 1643, and the initials of Daniel O'Madden, but it's thought the tower may be slightly older. There are square bartizans on the SW and NE corners.
