Old house of Easter Coates
Old house of Easter Coates
House built in the early 17thC by the High Street merchant John Byres. In 1787, it came into the possession of the Walker family, being passed down to two sisters who let it to tenants until it was abandoned in 1870. The last surviving sister gifted the house and estate to the Scottish Episcopal Church for building St Mary's Cathedral which stands just off to the right. The Walker sisters are commemorated in the names of the Cathedral's two western spires, known as 'Barbara' and 'Mary'. The house is now St Mary's Music School. LinkExternal link
