SN8343 : Sugarloaf tunnel

taken 8 years ago, 4 km from Cynghordy, Carmarthenshire/Sir Gaerfyrddin, Great Britain

Sugarloaf tunnel
Sugarloaf tunnel
The Mid Wales railway line from Llanelli to Shrewsbury wends its way around Sugarloaf, a significant hill on its route. But then it goes through this kilometre long single track tunnel. It is crossing the watershed. The streams behind us feed Afon Gwyddon and the Afon Tywi system. Those north of the watershed flow into the Afon Irfon, a tributary of the River Wye.
