Entrance to Dunvegan Castle
Entrance to Dunvegan Castle
The castle was once on a small island in Loch Dunvegan, accessible only by sea. There is now a bridge leading to the main door, the land beneath which has been raised well above sea level.
The tent-like structure protects the work being undertaken to repair the roof. The work will cost around 1.8m and is expected to be complete by the end of 2010.
The castle and gardens remain open for visitors during the renovations.
