Gatwick Express blocks all lines
Gatwick Express blocks all lines
A Gatwick Express approaches Gatwick Airport and is switched from the down fast line at the extreme left to platform 1 at the extreme right, blocking all lines in the process. The bizarre platform allocation at Gatwick seems to date from the days when baggage could be checked in at Victoria station, and the low numbered platforms at the right offered a chance to handle this baggage onward at minimum investment in infrastructure - a level crossing over the platform 1 line. The result has been many years of niggling delays to trains through Gatwick.
