SJ9222 : Foregate lockup

taken 8 years ago, near to Stafford, Staffordshire, Great Britain

Foregate lockup
Foregate lockup
Situated at the corner of the old Lichfield Road and White Lion Street. The lockup dates back to a time when Foregate, to the south of the River Sow, lay outside Stafford town and had to provide its own 'facilities'. The wall to the left is all that remains of the old pub of that name which was demolished in the 1970s and may itself be partly built from the remains of the long vanished C13th Hospital of St John the Baptist.
