Great Welnetham Church snake
Great Welnetham Church snake
At the junction of the nave and chancel there is this unique small carving on a quoin of a snake. Its significance is unknown. For the picture of the church > LinkExternal link. Welnethan can be spelled with or without the 'h' after the W. Ordnance Survey maps state - Welnetham, but the modern custom seems to be Whelnetham. Both seem to have equal usage.
