Ashby Cottage
Ashby Cottage
17th Century thatched Grade II Listed cottage on Westbere Lane.
See LinkExternal link for more details about the cottage.
This cottage is one of the four hall houses to be found in Westbere and is thought to date from around 1480. It is a good example of a 'low' or single storey hall house. It comprises a single-bay open hall, one end open and the other end originally lofted over with a sleeping platform. It is a valuable survival of a house that never had a first floor inserted into either the open bay or the hall. The cottage is of timber frame construction with wattle and daub walls. The collar-rafted roof is thatched in reed.
