Carnforth Station
Carnforth Station
This shows the buildings on Platform 1, where the Friends of Carnforth Station have restored the 'Brief Encounter' refreshment room as it was in the well-known Noel Coward film, and have also provided much other interesting display material. There are good clean toilets. However, I have two main issues with Carnforth station:
1. The main line platforms have been smashed out so that it is impossible for main line trains to call here.
2. Trans-Pennine Express, who run the station, do not see fit to mention that trains to Barrow have, mostly, good connections onward to Whitehaven, Workington and Maryport, let alone Carlisle. This latter is probably because these connecting trains are operated by another company - Northern Rail. But as far as Carnforth station is concerned, the Cumbrian Coast line beyond Barrow might as well not exist.
