American Adventure Entrance
The American Adventure Theme Park rose from the ashes of the failed Britannia Park which was opened on 27 June 1985, by Henry Cooper. Built on the site of a former colliery, Britannia Park was bankrupt just ten weeks after the opening but was kept going for the rest of the season and then put up for sale. Following a three year fraud investigation and a fourteen month trial, Derbyshire County Council bought the park in 1986 before selling it a year later when it reopened as "The American Adventure". It has changed hands again since then and now, during the season opens daily at 10:30am. I took this photo less than an hour before opening time but there was little sign of activity at the main entrance or on the car park. In the days of Britannia Park Link
the main entrance was in a different position and was a much grander affair - I think today's main entrance was just the "tradesmen's entrance" back then. See also SK4544 : Pit Lane/Hassock Lane South and SK4444 : The American Adventure
