Remnants of a railway bridge, Docks Way, Newport
Next to the one surviving railway bridge LinkExternal link across Docks Way are the remnants of at least one, and probably two, railway bridges. The shabby tiled wall extends beyond the left edge of the photo, to the far end of the railway bridge.

This is a reminder of the extensive coal traffic, from the mining valleys to Newport Docks, that formerly using this railway route. There were extensive marshalling facilities to the north of the bridges at the Level of Mendalgief, leading to Newport Docks on the south side of the bridges.
