Is this a stile?
The local interpretation of a stile seems to be a very short section of three barred fence. When complete with two tall uprights there is nowhere to swing a leg for other than a ballet dancer. There are two similar devices further along this footpath. A return trip avoided this by going up the other side of the hedge ending on the right - one steel six-barred gate was much easier to climb than this device and a regular but hedge-overgrown stile further back.
