Kirkintilloch's old water supply :: NS6779
In 1874 Provost Downie of Kirkintilloch opened a water supply which went to the town via an eight inch main supply from a storage tank near Drumnairn which in turn was filled from a well near Corrie Spout NS6778 : Corrie Spout. By 1906 a nine inch pipe led from the outflow of (West) Corrie reservoir around the contour of Brown Hill and then took a southerly direction to Woodburn Reservoir NS6677 : Woodburn dam and valve pier from which it was taken through filter beds NS6677 : Screening tank. From there a ten inch pipe took a supply to the town, another eight inch main was used to supply Milton of Campsie with this pipe continuing on to the town as well. In addition to these a twelve inch pipe went from Woodburn Reservoir direct to Antermony Loch NS6676 : Antermony Loch which was used as another storage reservoir. When required a twelve inch pumpline took water back up the hill to Woodburn for onward distribution via the supply pipes.
