Three Mills Lock (west side)
Three Mills Lock (west side)
The lock was opened in 2009 amongst other things to enable barges to bring materials to and remove spoil from the 2012 Olympics and Stratford City projects. Although at present only one barge is said to pass through the lock each week, its presence reduces the risk of flooding in the area. It is situated on Prescott Channel which was cut between 1930-5 as part of a flood relief scheme.
